Grandma's Comfort Quilt

Pictures at bottom of page

This quilt was the first project I've made completely with stash fabric --
I didn't buy a single thing to complete the project.
The 6" blocks were donated from a past Secret Quilty Angel,
when I decided to do a quilt for Grandma, I dug through my stash,
found the blocks, and based the quilt around those.
I had the backing/outer border fabric (purchased just because I liked it).
The various pink squares are from a pink fabric swap I participated in,
and the green sashing strips were intended for another project but then
I didn't use. Like I said, totally stash-made.

Placement of the blocks/pink fabrics was totally random. I had them
scattered on the table and reached for another square as I needed it.
Therefore, after looking at it, I think some could have been better
placed, but I also like the randomness of it.

The quilt is also my first machine-quilted project --
I used two different sized flower templates, traced around them with a
disappearing ink pen, and sewed away. The smaller flower is in the center
of each completed block, with the larger flower in the center of each
plain pink square. My flowers and stitching are far from perfect,
but I'm happy with how the overall quilt turned out.

I began the project in February, when I found out that Grandma had
been in the hospital. I put it away (like so many projects), then
got it out in May and finished the binding and added the label
(that took 4 hours, I should have finished it back in February).

The finished quilt is a lap sized, approx. 40"x40".

Another shot of Grandma (& me) & her quilt!

The background on this page is the backing fabric,
which is actually greener in person.
